One Year SMARTsemi

September marked a year since we launched SMARTsemi. From the onset, our goal has been to simplify the process of finding, qualifying, and procuring memory components for long-life embedded applications. Since then, we’ve been enhancing the functionality of our digital platform to provide additional tools and information, expanding our product line up and range of products, and broadening our network of distributors and sales reps. 

Twenty years in the making

SMARTsemi may be relatively new online source, but we successfully leveraged decades of experience in the semiconductor memory market behind the scenes. As a line of business of SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., SMARTsemi taps into SMART’s global production, engineering, and logistics centers. For over 20 years, SMART has manufactured and delivered millions of memory components annually for embedded medical, robotics, communications, automotive, industrial, defense, home entertainment applications and standard, ruggedized, and custom memory and storage solutions in high-growth markets. SMARTsemi builds on all that expertise to deliver a seamless sourcing experience for our customers. Our digital platform on smartsemi.com is designed to minimize the effort to search, select, and source products from our authorized stocking distributors or directly from us.

Growing together
SMARTsemi was built to deliver quality products with unique processing and services. Our product catalog initially focused on industrial grade MLC eMMC and DRAM for long-life applications. Today – one year later – we vastly expanded our DRAM and FLASH product lines with new components, like SD cards and microSD cards, densities, and operating ranges, including automotive class 2 and commercial grade, to suit the needs of our customers’ applications.

We provide the mainstream as well as the products that are hard to find. Sourcing from SMARTsemi is like having a partner at your side, whether at the launch of a new product, ramping up through volume, or ensuring continuity of supply until the end. In the past six months, we also expanded our North American network of stocking distributors and sales reps with partners in Europe and Asia. We are now shipping worldwide thanks to our network of trusted regional distributors.

A trusted supplier for long-life applications

The semiconductor industry has been going through the motions in the past few years. SMARTsemi was launched when the market was slowly recovering from the global chip shortage. The memory chip market is still sorting itself out: Customer inventory levels have been depleting while demand is increasing, and supplier production levels and capacity investments have been cut back. When designing long-life applications, engineers and procurement specialists have to think long-term. They need to ensure the supply of all the embedded components is stable for the period ahead when demand outstrips supply and prices are on the rise, something that’s forecast to happen throughout 2024. Thanks to our long-term relationships and supply agreements with Tier-1 manufacturers, we are in a solid position to be the reliable supply chain partner to our customers. 

We listened to our customers and the market to optimize and grow the SMARTsemi product offering, distributor and sales rep network, and our digital platform. We’re very thankful to all our partners and customers for the past twelve months and look forward to what lies ahead!
